Why I heart Gay Men

Posted by: marujainlyon on: March 19, 2008

Bakla, Bading, Shokla, Shukling,Gurlash,Paminta, Pamihn at kung anik anik pa… ang dami nilang names…di ko kaya !

Ive been meaning to write about this for quite a while now. I felt …its about time…ito na ang moment nila para ma-mention sa blog ko.

The beginning of this post looks boring, but as you read on…its somewhat entertaining…promise !

Why do I love Gay Men? Parang….”How do i love thee “ni Robert Barret Browning… ( or siya ba yung author?)

Growing up in Manila, the capital with abundant gays, faggots, bi’s , transexual and many more, para silang kabute…they grow everywhere, you can find them anywhere. Even beggars at the tender age of maybe 6 (or less) are potential and bound to be gays. They are very well accepted in the society and i myself have set of friends much until now, kahit nasa ibang continent sila.

Their endless antics of jokes, laughter never ceased, they are full of life, full of spirit, they serve as an inspiration.

During my high school days in the late 80’s… i had my usual “barkada” or “gang”"group of friends”".. we were all girls and in one assuming to be a “girl”. His name is ;

1- Fausto – the very macho name, but with a heart of a girl. My first ever gay friend. Fausto originally came from the southern part of Metro Manila, he wears the usual boys clothes, but during saturdays, whenever we come to school for rehearsals for plays, music and other activities, he puts on splashes of lipgloss, blush on,mascara, flowery headbands and the all girls favourite cologne “Nenuco”. Fausto listens to Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Boy George (whom he said his inspiration) and Bananarama.

After high school , Fausto went to University and we just lost in touch…..

2-Raymond  Reyes- he was a classmate during my university days, we sat next to each other. We call him “Mama Monch”, Monching being his nickname,  Raymond was my high school classmate Eden’s cousin and we just clicked one time and met during the endless queue of our enrollment. Although Monch had his own set of friends, we talk endlessly about movies, clothes,make-up, and we both love shoes..thats it! Monch also belonged to the top ten class in our batch and i believe now hes a successful nurse in the U.S. , like Fausto, after our graduation, we parted ways ….busy searching for jobs like everyone else.

3- Alex- “Maaather ” and tawag ko sa kanya. I met Alex at office work, hes one of the supervisors in the floor that i was in. We went to the same school, took the same course, just probably two years older than me. Siya yung nagpauso ng word sa office ng “watashi”, ang ibig sabihin sa gay lingo niya ay ” ako”. Alex loves music, and during office parties, he serves as the musical director or director of the programme. Witty and very talented, “Alexa”what we always call him, speaks fluent japanese as he travelled and lived in Japan with his family when he was young.  He was the one who pushed me to eat fish. I lost track of Alex when i went to Dubai the year after. I hope i can still find him by googling his name or maybe via freindster…gudlak na lang to me!

4- Nino- was a young out of school dropout who went to work with me in JBH in 97 as a busboy for the coffeeshop. He was 18. A laughing stock of everyone, Nino calls me his äte”, we were close and he was so sad when i left to join another company. Last time i heard of him is that he got married and now has a kid of his own….in short isa na siyang paminta!

5- Time space warp…fast forward….5o golden years after…2006…. i met Jey-Vee. Very timid, corporate type, carries his laptop bag all the time. Jey-Vee works as a Human Resouce Consultant for a Recruitment Agency. We met thru one of my friends. Reserved and quiet time, hes a simple person with simple joys in life. Trip lang niya ay yung pumunta sa Chika Grill kasama ng kanyang partner (name withheld).He/She and i are still very much intouch…not for personal reasons but also for future business prospects…At kung makita niyo si Jey-vee sa Manila na nag iinterview ng potential applicant papuntang Dubai…siya yun!

here’s Jey-vee ( actually he was hidden behind the statue)

6- Another John:  a true Gaaaarrrrllll ! Babae pa sa babae, loves lipgloss here and lipgloss there. I met him during the wedding in 06,  a big talker, non stop, loves to pout during photo shoots and believes that ironing his clothes is the best way to relieve stress……now…i have some ironing piling up….need to call John, who by the way only messaged me in facebook like….recently….like….haler?

John’s newly puckered pouty lips pose

7-Unanimous Jay-cee: ill just call him Jay-cee he might not want his name published, out of respect..and that hes a very well respected person in an industry. Jay-cee is a brilliant lawyer, was honored in a local lawyers mag. He and I used to work together, our workspace are close to each other. I just love his persona, very calm, serene, soft spoken, but tough….its like looking at a green green grass and blue ocean. Jay-cee has a long time partner and they share a lovely dog together called Chinu.  I clearly remember when he was “In Action”…. Dec 2006 , it was our board meeting, and being the company’s Legal Director, he served as the secretary at the board meeting. We were logged in skype and poor Jay-cee was stucked to death typing in his laptop in the boardroom. His breaktime , i think was just to go to the toilet and have a cup of tea. I like having intellectual and interesting conversations with him specially when its about work and not about work. A well travelled person and member of “QC” (lol) , he must have posted all the cities in his facebook account…and….were still very much in touch…saan pa…e di in facebook!

heres Chinu at home

8- Chester/Ches/Cheskah- He will be one of my inspirations…that will tell me…live life to the fullest…enjoy while it lasts…youll never know… he knows ” we love him”… i cant say anything more than that…im truly blessed to have met him.

Ches, in Pagadian recently….

9- JON VEEE- True Calling. What can i say…. My inspiration, instigator and the person behind “The Secret”. Certified dramatic writer, his journals are amazing …(kahit na minsan nakaka low-kah!) he dresses up like a true bloke, honorary member ng I.V.lol….he placed me on his list of  “Intelligent and Widely Scoped”List…kung ano man yon…thanks Jon, at least nasama ako dun sa ranks. He has his hi and low moments.Jon is also a “hooker” not Ho, but hooker kasi he likes to hook up single people i.e. D and A, K and W and maybe some unpublished ones that i dont know of. The couples are happy now. To top it all, i havent even met Jon in person….pero , i think, magka wave-length kami. wink.wink.

Here is Jon in his very defining moment. !

10- Last but not the least , hindi mawawala si Gracie ( Ang babaeng Bakla)- heto po siya…. hindi po siya transexual, in fact shes happily married and has two beautiful daughters. And by means of beautiful, tipong yung eldest niyang si Keisha eh size 36B ang cup size. Di ko kaya ! Tinalo pa ako !  Grace is parang mother to all, as in, mas matanda kasi siya sa akin…sobrang funny, kahit sa interview portion sa dati kong company, kahit seryoso siya, nakakatawa. Parang…if you’re talking to Gracie, even if your wearing an expensive G2000 suit, Mango at Zara and your talking to her professionally about Lama Tours, eh you will laugh when u see here.  She looks fierce , adik sa facebook, lahat na ata ng applications nasa kanya na ! Why I heart Gracie…because 1-she gives me free desert safari tours (with pick up) 2-she calls me long distance (when shes drunk) 3- her daughters reign and kish loves me 4- Globetrotter (pag na expire ang visa niya, sa Thailand siya nag e-exit ) 5-Love siya ni Denz.  mwaaahhh

Gracie- happily posing for a commercial shoot of Lama Tours Beer in Al Awir

Note to readers: #10 is really NOT Gay… u have to know her… so you can put her in this category…hahahahah

To all my gay and NOT gay friends, i heart you….Big Time..

Spring is here….

Posted by: marujainlyon on: February 25, 2008

Spring certainly is on its way, the weather last Sunday was absolutely amazing, i bet around 15 degrees. The sun was out and shining. We went to the park and its jam packed with families specially with kids. Bruno and i took Louis to play whilst Benjamin is as usual….sleeping in his ride.

Welcome Baby Benjamin

19.jpgHey Hey áll !

Obviously, i was away for few days of hibernation and popped out a beautiful baby boy, named Benjamin. He weighed 3.40 kg and is 49 cm long. Our older son Louis was so excited to see his little brother. I got out of the hospital just yesterday 16.02 and glad to be home. Boy oh boy i missed my dear bed. Iba talaga pag sa sariling kama mo ikaw natutulog, walang kapantay !

Im still adjusting to having two boys around me. Hey ! dont get me wrong, its not easy, the second time around. Louis is not used of having another baby around, lalo na when baby Benjamin cries. Now after few days, he likes to give his little bro a hugs and caress, he even likes to give his bottle when its feeding time. I hope they grow closer as they grow up.

Kung Hei Fat Choy !

Posted by: marujainlyon on: February 7, 2008

The title say’s itself ! Kung Hei Fat Choy !

Today is the Chinese New Year ! Even though im not Chinese, in the Philippines we always celebrate this day. I remember when i was a kid, the street where i grew up are majority chinese community. We always receive ‘tikoy”, nicely packed in a red box, square shaped or circle, white in colour with cellophane on the top, slice it and cooked in little oil, and presto….!

In my mom’s office, when i used to go every afternoon after school, i get to recieve red envelopes for luck or what we call “Ampaw”in tagalog, with paper money on it.  At home, we burn difference scent of incense to clear the house and bad spirits away and bring fortune for the coming year.

My family is very superstitious, we always follow chinese traditions not religiously though…but having been brought up with so many chinese influences..i guess until now, we still observe it !

 From Wikipedia:

Chinese New Year (simplified Chinese: ; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: Nónglì xīnnián; literally: “Agrarian Calendar New Year”) or Spring Festival (simplified Chinese: ; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: Chūnjié) is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is sometimes called the Lunar New Year, especially by people outside China. It is an important holiday in East Asia. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first lunar month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival (simplified Chinese: 元宵; traditional Chinese: 元宵; pinyin: yuánxiāojié).

Chinese New Year’s Eve is known as Chúxī (除夕). Chu literally means “change” and xi means “Eve”.

Celebrated in areas with large populations of ethnic Chinese, Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had a strong influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbours, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans, Mongolians, Nepalese, Bhutanese, Vietnamese, and formerly the Japanese before 1873. In Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and other countries with significant Chinese populations, Chinese New Year is also celebrated, largely by overseas Chinese, but it is not part of the traditional culture of these countries.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR EVERYONE !

My wish…

Posted by: marujainlyon on: December 10, 2007

Tonite, as i begin writing my blog, i saw the date “10th December.” The date was so familiar…. tomorrow pala is my birthday. So Happy Happy birthday to me ! Gosh, i feel old, as in ancient and antique. Dont ask about the age, coz i still feel young at heart. A birthday will not be complete, without a personal wish. My husband asked me weeks before, “what do you want for your birthday”…. If only i could answer him with so many things.  I just wished that time was something material. But does it really matter???? i told myself “yes it matters”!.

After days of browsing by the window of this boutique called ”Printemps”, i saw this beautiful sachel bag from Marc Jacobs, and i was dying to have this one …not bad for a birthday gift….but after peeking thru the madugong price tag ! do i really need it. ?

I have changed my mind though, recently i was talking to my sister over the phone about this book called “The Secret”, which is akala ko naman eh movie or whatever. But then she started talking about this book like non-stop, like it has an hypnotic effect on her, suddenly my sister talks with sense!!!! eeekkkk ! i was surprised, coz its very unlikely of her. Though she sounded “preachy” . It began to have a positive effect on me.

I couldnt contain my curiosity that i started browsing the site about this so called book. Hindi ko pa siya nababasa pero, it has an effect on me already. I wanted to have this book on my bday, so im not buying it , coz im waiting for my dear sisterette to come at the end of the month and give me the book.

I still have many wishes, which im hoping this year ! not to mention still adamant of having the Marc Jacobs bag….
